STUDENTS:
Miss Thao exibits the ability to build strong relationships, carries on a professional demeanor, and has a willingness and drive that can only increase learning in the classroom!
While working with Miss Thao, I experienced first-hand her innate skill to build positive rapport with children. Whether a student was a preschool child or attended our middle school, Nou was able to help them at the drop of a hat. She quickly made associations as to whom their parents, siblings, and teachers were which lead to quick solutions and a deep trust between them.
Miss Thao worked closely with the kindergarten and first grades, where she excelled in inferring what needs children had academically and socially. When given a task, she followed through, and if a concern or idea popped in her head, she readily shared with teachers. Many times, her ideas were used to amplify learning in the classroom.
As the reading specialist, Nou was an individual that I entrusted to uphold the integrity of our reading interventions. I was confident that the daily thirty minutes that students worked with her, was time well spent. Not only did she teach students reading strategies, she kept them excited and motivated to read on a daily basis through a variety of literacy games and genres. She also helped me conduct DIBELS screening three times per year so that we could identify at risk readers.
Culturally, Miss Thao is a wealth of knowledge about the Hmong Culture and Community. Not only can she fluently communicate with both English and Hmong speaking parents, she is easily approachable for the non-Hmong teachers and staff as they continue to learn more about their Hmong students. Overall, she is a role model to all!
